The Library Foundation’s Annual Great Big Book Bash program is back again to give children and families a chance to interact with their favorite authors.  This year, the Great Big Book Bash will serve as a kick-off to our Summer Reading Program on May 21, 2011 at the Main Branch Library.    Two sessions will be hosted featuring two different authors.

The morning session is focused on children pre-school age to 2nd grade and will feature “song singer, tale teller, music maker” NY Times Best-Selling Author Eric Litwin, author of Pete the Cat.  Eric  is a popular performing artist who plays interactive music, tells musical stories and brings books to life. He plays at schools and libraries across the country. Mr. Eric has won a Parents Choice Award, iParenting Media Award, The Children’s Music Web Award and many more. Report on the Ryland Post Office Town Hall Meeting

The following is a report from Berns Miller:

The Ryland Post Office Town Hall Meeting was successful and effective. For those of you who didn’t attend, you missed an exciting meeting.  I would like to thank the 60 plus people who did attend and especially those who commented and asked questions. Our performance was superb. The public record made at our town hall meeting will definitely go a long way to advance our appeal when the Ryland Post Office is actually closed by order of the USPS. Our Hats are off to the Ryland Community for standing up and being counted.

Man dies in drive-by shooting

A man shot in a drive-by shooting in Huntsville has died.  Police were called to the scene at around 7:10pm on Tuesday at the traffic light of the Mastin Lake and Blue Springs Road intersection.

Huntsville Police said they found a man by the name of Tavaris Sentil Love laying outside of his vehicle, a silver Ford Taurus.  Police say Love was shot several times.

"It's ridiculous, people can just pull up to a stop sign and just shoot somebody. That is sad," said Huntsville resident, Jerry Hinton.
