UAHuntsville & NASA research winter storm

Who would have guessed that the perfect place to gather detailed scientific data from a powerful snowstorm would be here in north Alabama?

That turned out to be the case last week, however, as scientists at The University of Alabama in Huntsville and NASA's Earth Sciences Office used a network of mobile and on-site instruments -- many designed to study severe thunderstorms -- to get some of the most detailed measurements ever taken of a major snow storm in action.

Huntsville Police officers responded to an alarm at Bohnhoff Jewelry off University Drive early this morning.  When officers arrived they noticed that the front glass had been broken out. The owner responded and said that several items had been taken. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.

The Madison County Courthouse will delay opening until 10am Wednesday morning. 

All Madison County road crews are on standby and have response teams in place to clear roads.

Burglary to a home

Huntsville police say that a home was burglarized off Haynes Avenue while the victim was asleep early this morning.  Police say the suspect entered through the back door of the home, stole the victim's purse and ran.

Police officers checked the neighborhood and located what was left of the victim's purse, which had been set on fire.

The vicitim wasn't injured during the crime.

A ribbon cutting will be held for 100 Black Men of America-Greater Huntsville Chapter on Tuesday, February 1 at 11:30am.

The ceremony will be held at the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville-Madison County Auditorium at 225 Church Street.
