Are you feeling competitive this Halloween? Then sign up for Sci-Quest, Hands-on Science Center’s Pumpkin Carving Contest on Saturday, Oct. 19. Contestants can register to enter the contest now through Oct. 18.
Contestants can compete in four categories: kids painting (children ages 12 and under), family carving, amateur carving and professional carving. A panel of judges will select the winners in each category. All pumpkins will be judged based on design, theme, detail, creativity and originality. The theme this year is science. Contestants may submit pumpkins for multiple categories.
The contest will be held at Sci-Quest on Oct. 19. Contestants will need to bring their own pumpkins and carving tools for the contest. Sci-Quest will provide the paint and paintbrushes for the kids painting category. Workspace will be provided for contestants and all carving/painting will be done on Sci-Quest premises during 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Contestants can arrive anytime between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to finish their pumpkin. The contest will end at 3 p.m. Judges will view the pumpkins and announce the winners at a special awards ceremony after the contest and prizes awarded.
Cost of entry is by category: $15 for kids painting, $20 for family carving, and $25 for the amateur and professional carvings. The pumpkins from the contest will be on display at Sci-Quest from Oct. 19 through Oct. 26. For more information including complete contest rules, visit www.sci-quest.org.
