The Arts Council has announced a change to the Panoply Arts Festival’s long-running arts education program, Fifth Grade Days. The 2013 festival will welcome younger students to preview Panoply before it opens to the public on Friday, April 26.
"Each year the Panoply Arts Festival continues to change and grow. In summer 2012, Arts Council staff, festival volunteers, and area educators considered elementary curriculum standards and determined Panoply’s educational programming best complements the curricular and developmental goals for younger students,” said Arts Council Executive Director Allison Dillon-Jauken.
“We’re excited to welcome second, third, and fourth grade classes to the festival for the first time as part of our new Panoply School Days programming on Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26. We’re confident that Panoply will be an educational, engaging arts experience for these students, teachers, and their parents,” Dillon-Jauken added.
The 2013 Panoply Schools Days programming will introduce young learners to multiple art forms including music, theatre, dance, and the visual arts. Panoply School Days programming will also offer history and social studies components. Students will be introduced to the history of the blues by local performers Microwave Dave and the Nukes, and they will also participate in programming offered by the Ireland Pavilion in Panoply’s Global Village. All students, teachers, and parents will visit the Panoply Student Art Tent, and fourth grade students will participate in special tours of the Huntsville Museum of Art.
Registrations for Panoply School Days are being accepted through March 15, 2013, and second, third, and fourth grade educators are encouraged to call The Arts Council at 256-519-2787 or visit the website at www.artshuntsville.org to download the registration form.
