Huntsville Utilities warns customers about scams | Community Spirit
Huntsville Utilities reports there are several scams taking place directed toward customers.
“Over the past couple of weeks we have received calls from business owners who have been contacted by individuals claiming they are from Huntsville Utilities stating that their utility bill was past due and if they did not pay that day they would be cut off,” stated utility spokesman Bill Yell.
One customer was even told to meet a “collector” in a remote parking lot to make payment, Yell said.
Huntsville Utilities said it does contact business customers to discuss past due bills, but only after they reach a specific amount, and they do not demand same-day payment to prevent disconnection.
Huntsville Utilities advises customers to always ask for specific information from anyone claiming to represent the company, such as their name and company contact information. Customers are welcome and encouraged to contact the Huntsville Utilities to verify that information or to report any suspicious contact by individuals claiming to be a representive.
