HPD receives accreditation award | Community Spirit
The Huntsville Police Department is celebrating its sixth accreditation award. The award was presented Thursday night at the city council meeting.
The recognition came from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies or CALEA. The award goes to departments that are successfully accredited for 15 continuous years or longer.
Huntsville's police chief said this is an important milestone.
"It says that you have one of the finest police departments in the country. It's an elite status that the commission on accreditation for law enforcement awards and very few departments in the country achieve that status," said Huntsville Police Chief Lewis Morris.
Huntsville's police department is one of few agencies in the state accredited by CALEA.
