WID supports project for elementary students | Community Spirit
The Tennessee Valley Chapter Women in Defense (WID) will be presenting a check to Mt. Carmel Elementary in support of the STEM Learning Station project at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mt. Carmel Elementary and UAH’s Dr. Christina Carmen are working together to encourage students to be excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Since the summer semester, Mt. Carmel Elementary has been a customer of Dr. Carmen’s MAE 490 Engineering Design class. Dr. Carmen’s students selected the Mt. Carmel STEM Learning Station project, which is being sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Chapter Women in Defense. Deborah Fraley of the WID-TVC has worked closely with the engineering students that selected the STEM project.
The STEM Learning Station will be four sound dampened, connected booths that will be used by Mt. Carmel students to explore STEM topics interactively. The WID has provided funds and donations in order to cover the original cost of building material, tablets, and overhead video cameras.
Delivery of the completed STEM Learning Station is set for the later part of November 2013.
