J.O. Johnson Band holds fundraiser to go to DC | News
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- The kids in the J.O. Johnson High School Band are getting ready for a trip to the nation's capitol to march in the National Memorial Day Parade in May, but they need help getting there.
Saturday, they will hold a fundraiser at the K-Mart on North Memorial Parkway.
There will be bands playing from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Johnson High School Band is looking to raise $35,000 to cover their traveling fees.
Organizers say this is a huge opportunity for the students.
"Going to a city, Washington, DC, is really exciting for the students, and we're representing the state of Alabama. It's like we're carrying the weight of Huntsville and Alabama on our shoulders," said Karen Rogers-Moore with the J.O. Johnson Band Boosters.
The event will include face painting, balloon art, a hoola hoop contest, and more.
Giveaways to donors will include concert tickets, gift certificates to area restaurants, and gift certificates to Across the Pond and Bennett Nursery.
Donations can be made in person at K-Mart on Saturday or at JOJexhibition.com. Click on Donations. You can also use PayPal to JOJBandDC@gmail.com or BBVA Compass Bank, the JOJBBAI-DC account.
