MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- Buckhorn Middle School students treated local veterans to breakfast and lunch, and in return they got a history lesson.
Veterans from WWII all the way up to the current war in Afghanistan talked with kids about what it's like to fight for your country.
WWII veteran Charles Jones was the oldest veteran to speak.
He told kids about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and about his experience overseas. All the veterans that were there agree that it's important to teach kids about the past because they are the future.
"It really lets them know that there are so many generations that came before us and that these are the kids and adults that are going to lead our country," explained Lt. Col. Ron Gesaman.
The kids also held a special assembly to honor and recognize veterans. They say it's the least they could do to say Thank You for their service.
