HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Police are searching for a man who burglarized a home and accosted a maid while she was cleaning on East Arbor Drive.
Witnesses said the owner of the home had died, and the family hired a cleaning service to come and clean the home.
A Merry Maids employee was inside cleaning when a man kicked in the back door, grabbed her, and demanded money. She told him she did not have any.
He then barricaded the front door with furniture and fled out the back door.
The victim ran across the street and told neighbors what happened.
One of those neighbors, Jason Derrick, ran over the hill to a creek below, but he could not find the suspect. The victim stayed with the neighbors until police got there.
"She was pretty upset. She was crying and we tried to console her the best we could, to try and calm her down and everything. She's got bruises on her arm from where the guy assaulted her. It really makes me mad," Derrick said. "I have two children. I have two daughters, and I don't like it a bit. I think it's a shame it's going on in the neighborhood, and I really hope they catch the guy who did it. He deserves to be punished."
The victim told police the man is probably in his 30's with salt and pepper colored hair. She also said he has two tattoos on his forehead above his left eyebrow. Both are star-shaped. The man is also missing his left-side canine incisor tooth.
Anyone who knows anything that can help the investigation is encouraged to call the Huntsville Police Department.
