Arts Council launching series for new entertainment district

Arts Council launching series for new entertainment district

When Huntsville's new arts and entertainment district officially launches on June 20, you will not be at a loss for things to see and do while you eat, drink and be merry.

From launch night through Friday, September 27, The Arts Council will bring a series of street performers, block parties, concerts, art demonstrations and more to the Quigley Arts & Entertainment District and Big Spring Park. Free, public performances will occur around the square and to Big Spring East.

"Huntsville already has a vibrant downtown arts and entertainment scene," said Allison Dillon-Jauken, Executive Director for the Arts Council. "We're collaborating with a broad cross-section of performers and community partners to program live outdoor street performances around the downtown square."

Madison Arts Council annouces 'Love Art' Membership Drive

Along with being incredibly awesome at finding local places to shop and spend my money and sharing that on-line, I also happen to be passionate about the arts.   Now all across the Tennessee Valley there are local groups that support the arts, but what those groups need are YOUR support.

You may know about The Arts Council and how they put on Panoply, concerts in the park, the SPACES trail and Art on the Square.  Those things don’t just happen.  They take time, money, and volunteers to make these events possible for the public.

In my neck of the woods, they have the Madison Arts Council.  They are hosting a Love Art Membership Drive.  What/Who is the Madison Arts Council?

Fall for the Arts this October

Fall for the Arts this October

More than 30 local arts and cultural organizations are coming together to make you "Fall for the Arts" this October.

It's part of a nation-wide celebration of Arts and Humanities month. Art classes, festivals, performances and exhibits are among the 350 events planned for October alone around Huntsville.

"The sheer number and range of arts, cultural, and entertainment events in October is evidence that there is always something to do in Huntsville and the surrounding region." said Allison Dillon-Jauken, the Executive Director of the Arts Council. "While October is National Arts and Humanities month, very few of the community's October arts and cultural events were scheduled specifically because of 'Fall for the Arts'.

Huntsville Hospital to hold ribbon cutting for new lab

Huntsville Hospital to hold ribbon cutting for new lab

Huntsville Hospital will hold a grand opening ceremony for its new Simulation Lab on Wednesday.

The ceremony will consist of a ribbon cutting at 1:30 p.m., followed by refreshments and staff-guided tours of the lab.

In 2011, Huntsville Hospital employee donations provided 100 percent of the funding needed to equip the lab. The Simulation Lab replicates actual patient rooms and ICU beds, and is equipped with life-size robotic mannequins programmed to mimic symptoms and simulate real-life scenarios so that employees can practice and master fundamental techniques needed for patient care. All new nurses receive training in the Simulation Lab, as do staff needing recertification and extended training on treatment protocols and procedures.

The event will be April 11, 2012 from 1-3 p.m. at the Dowdle Center located on the Huntsville Hospital main campus.

Crestwood Hospital wins legal fight with Huntsville Hospital

Crestwood Hospital has won a legal fight with Huntsville Hospital.

The two hospitals clashed over a cardiac program.

Crestwood wanted to continue offering elective angioplasty.

Huntsville Hospital opposed it.

A special judge heard three days of testimony in January. That judge has now ruled Crestwood can continue to seek a certificate of need for the program.
