Utility to affect traffic starting May 28th

Utility work to affect traffic on Drave Avenue beginning May 28.

Huntsville Utilities will close the outside west bound lane of Drake Avenue from Whitesburg Drive to L&N Drive each day beginning Tuesday, May 28, through Friday, May, 31.

The closure is necessary so that HU crews can replace natural gas lines along Drake Avenue.

These lane closures will begin each day at 7:30 a.m. and the lane will be reopened at 2:00 p.m.

Huntsville drivers shouldn't be surprised to see a house on the move later Wednesday.

DUI checkpoints announced

The Huntsville Police Department announced a list of DUI checkpoints which will be enforced through New Year’s Eve.

Officials said they will be proactive in enforcing Alabama DUI laws over the holiday weekend.

DUI checkpoints will be located at University Drive at Jordan Lane, US 72 East between Epworth and Moore’s Mill Road, Oakwood Avenue and Pulaski Pike, North Memorial Parkway at Sparkman Drive, Jordan Lane at Sparkman Drive, South Memorial Parkway at Meadowbrook Drive and Airport Road and Whitesburg Drive.

Resurfacing planned for Interstate 565

Resurfacing planned for Interstate 565

Lane closures are planned on Interstate 565 November 3-4 from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Crews will be resurfacing the road between mile markers 5 and 7 near County Line Road.

There will be at least one lane open to traffic in both directions. The speed limit will drop to 50 mph.

Alabama Department of Transportation officials suggest drivers use alternate routes during this work.

 

House move scheduled for Wednesday

House move scheduled for Wednesday

Don Kennedy and Sons House Moving Company plan to move a house Wednesday.

Traffic will be impacted in the areas of Mastin Lake Road, Blue Spring Road, Winchester Road, Meridian Street, Wholesale Avenue and Hi-Lo Circle.

The move will begin around 9:00 a.m. on Mastin Lake Road. It will end on Hi-Lo Circle.

 

Police advise motorists to use caution in school zones

Police advise motorists to use caution in school zones

Huntsville police advised commuters that school zones will be strictly enforced starting August 20.

Police said classes will resume Monday, and all posted speed limits and traffic laws will be strictly enforced.

Motorists should allow for extra time in school zones.

Officials also said motorists should be aware of Public Safety Aides and should consider every child walking as a caution sign.
